November is a month to be thankful for many things: delicious turkey, family gatherings, and…. ballet shoes!
The Nutcracker Ballet is an annual event (and staple!) at The Forum. Months of rehearsals, set building, and costume design go into this extravagant holiday production. We interviewed Kristi Pulliam,
Executive/Artistic Director at the FOA about the upcoming event and what it takes to pull off a play as big as the Nutcracker. “Thousands of hours of volunteerism are represented through the beautiful culmination onstage,” stated Kristi. “This performance is an extremely valuable tradition in Jonesboro. The show
changes and varies in style and casting from year to year, but the integrity of the storyline and beauty in the ballet remains the same. Families mark the beginning of their holiday season with their attendance, and the FOA is proud to be home to many dancers who love their art and believe in the good of what they’re doing. Be a part of our community, be connected with people who create, share in the arts through attending The Nutcracker Ballet”.
The Nutcracker will begin on November 18th, and will run through November 22nd at 7:30 pm on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, and 2:00 pm on Sunday. Check out their website to purchase tickets here.
Now, for a little back history. The FOA began in 1986 with the merging of the Friends of the Forum, The Northeast Arkansas Fine Arts Council, and the Delta Symphony Orchestra. The FOA became for the community, by the community later, as the Delta Symphony Orchestra found a new home at Riceland Hall, and the FOA realized how important and talented the local community is in making things happen here
The FOA is an important part of Northeast Arkansas because it provides a place for all to connect through the arts. We believe that participation in the arts changes people for the better, and the people who believe the mission of the FOA make sure that anyone who wants to work hard through the arts can participate, regardless of their ability to pay. Every week, families bring their children in for dance, a
rt, and theatre classes, where students immerse themselves into the world of art. Even adults can participate in classes, from Graphic Design intro to low-impact ballet for weekly exercise; the FOA offers something for every age.
We hope you’ll join us for the annual production of the Nutcracker ballet. In addition to the 11 community theatre productions this season, ‘A Christmas Carol’ will fo
llow suit in December after the Nutcracker! We are so proud to have the Foundation of Arts as part of the Downtown Jonesboro family and encourage you all to support their passion. See you Downtown at The Nutcracker Ballet, and don’t forget to eat, shop, and DANCE Downtown!
